Kaffeodlare drabbade i Uganda

Den 1 mars drabbades ett område i östra Uganda av ett kraftigt jordskred.

95 människor har hittats döda och 300 är fortfarande saknade. De flesta människor som drabbades var kaffeodlare och förutom förlorade familjemedlemmar blev många också av med sina hem och skördarna de lever av. Vi känner för de drabbade och donerade omgående en summa pengar till människorna i området.

Exact location is Nametsi Parish, Bukalasi subcounty, at the edge of Mt Elgon National Parc.

The total victim count is unchanged with 95 bodies recovered and +300 missing (assumed dead).

The government is planning to relocate +10'000 "climate refugees" as the risk of further slides is ongoing. For now there are 2 refugee camps settled in the area, this facilitates donations and first aid.

Cholera has broken through and is affecting the area. The direct consequence of the landslide might bring more victimes than the actual disaster itself though the Red Cross and Unicef are well organized on site.

Kawacom has dispatched 2 trucks of emergency dry food (mainly maize). We are awaiting to receive all donations from our partners to provide further relief.
